10th March 2023

We finally got to hold our Teacher Only Day, in person, at Stratford Primary School this year. Third time lucky! We had a great day with keynote speakers Elizabeth Schaw from the Ministry of Education who took us through the Curriculum Refresh and Rob Cope spoke about the ‘Informed and Empowered’ online safety program that schools will be working their way through this year. We also had a range of great break out speakers who shared their knowledge so it was a great day!

Thank you to all that took the time to fill out our feedback form. We had some great feedback about our speakers and some constructive feedback to help us plan for future events. 
A common theme coming through from the responses was the opportunity to meet and build relationships within our Kāhui Ako community. The questions asked was;
What was most useful from the day?

• Reconnecting with and meeting new people in our Kāhui Ako
• Connections and relationships with colleagues from other schools.
• Enjoyed the chat with staff from other schools.
• Meeting teachers from other schools.
• Networking with other teachers.
• Great to see what other teachers are finding successful in their classrooms.
• Connecting with other leaders across our Kāhui Ako.

7th March 2023

First Leadership hui of the year. Our ASLs and Ben shared our 2022 data collation for PAT Maths, e.asttle writing and Me and My School. Lots of great conversations and next steps formulated for the kāhui and individual kura. We also welcomed Lisa new Tumuaki at Avon and Allana new AP at Stratford High School.

27th January 2021

Tēnā rā o ngā pou o ngā kura o Kahui Ako o Taranaki Mohoao.  Greetings to our people in Taranaki Mohoao.

On Wednesday 27 January 2021 we held a Powhiri at Whakaahurangi Marae.  This was to welcome everyone into the rohe (area).  

This was part of the tikanga for us to show respect to Ngati Ruanui, Ngati Maru, and Ngā Ruahine.  They are the 3 Iwi we most affiliate to in our area (there are 8 Iwi in Taranaki).  

It was the intention that each Iwi will have a korero of their rohe / Iwi.  It was an opportunity for us to connect with Hapu and Iwi. Once we have established a relationship we are now able to have contact to ask questions and support for our Kura.

The Manawhenua (local people – Ahitahi -Hapu) will welcomed us onto the Marae.  They shared stories about how this area came to be, local waiata, and korero.  We want to build strong relations with our Manawhenua.

If we had new staff it was a chance to be welcomed into the area.  It was also a chance for us to make connections with Manawhenua and surrounding Iwi.

23rd February 2021

Today our Tumuaki and cultural leaders in our kura meet to review our Cultural Capacity Achievement Challenge, discuss our combined Kahui Ako attendance, stand down and suspension data, begin discussions focused on the updates to Ka Hikitia – https://www.education.govt.nz/…/ka-hikitia-ka…/… and to re look at our Culturally Responsive Action Plan.  It was great to meet new kaiako who are joining us on this journey.  Thanks everyone for your input, enthusiasm and collaboration.  Kathe Tawhiwhirangi – as always it’s great to have you facilitating the discussion!!!

This afternoon our Tumuaki and our cultural leaders in our kura spent time with Phil and Puhi up on the Dawson Falls side of our Maunga.  We were lucky enough to listen to local stories and connect with our whēnua and deepen our understanding of where we are placed.  Lots of new learnings and being connected with our local environment.  So much to learn and so much to share this really is an exciting journey and we truly value this relationship we are strengthening with our local iwi.
